Lonely runner scanning the night along the Serpentine
Like Soubise looking for his lost soldiers in the dark
Like a wave under a ship’s bow
The obscure shroud is sliced
To close back ever darker, in its wake
A fugitive biblical dream of an Eve groping in the night
For a half-chewed apple a kingdom is lost
The Serpentine is a dark Queen of mystery…
