Smoke and Mirrors by Derek Gores
Whether by chance or twist of fate if you are not a vampyre
You may contemplate your mirrored image
And like Narcissus fall in love with yourself
Mirrors were used to catch the elusive lark
And Shakespeare in his sonnet 29
About disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes
Evoked the resilient bird with these words
‘Like the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven’s gate
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings’
